This weekend, I am experiencing a little bit of the dreaded writer's block.  It took me a little bit of time to come up with a topic.  I like to write of my true-to-life experiences, and even though this little piece of my blog is just that, I am not so sure that this is going to work.  Prior to meeting my husband, I dated quite a few frogs, before finally finding my prince, so to speak.  Hell, half the guys I dated, didn't even know how to pay for a date--we would go out and it would be McDonald's or Burger King.  One guy, who shall remain nameless, even went so far as to tell me that if I didn't have my own money, I wasn't allowed to eat--he wouldn't even pay for my soda.  (He was one of the biggest frogs that I spoke of in one of my previous sentences).

Then, I met Geo and all of that changes.  One of our favorite hangouts was Woody's Sports Bar, but our first official date, was at Bubba's Potbelly Stove in Quakertown.  That restaurant became one of those special places in our relationship.  Because that was where we shared our first official meal, we make it a point to go back every year on our wedding anniversary.  As with most of the things that stick out in my mind about my relationship with my husband, there are a few special occurences that make it memorable and IMPORTANT to what made us a couple.

Due to previously dating guys that never gave me choices in the relationship, it was strange for me to have a choice.  I was shocked to even here the phrase "What/where do YOU want to go?" (and I am not implying that Geo wasn't a good guy--it was just my previous experiences with guys).  I'm sure he was just as exasperated with the same answer that I responded with all the time--either "I don't know" or "it's up to you".  But after I gave my answer that time, he surprised me and took me to a nice restaurant.  We ended up at Bubba's Potbelly Stove.  We were seated in the back corner of the restaurant at a small, yet intimate, table.  We looked at the menu and there were so many options, I didn't know what to do.  Again, because of my previous dating history, I didn't feel comfortable ordering a "decent" meal.  So, I ordered a gourmet burger and French fries.  That also came with cole slaw and I had a Coke.

He continued to look at the menu and when the waitress took our order, he asked if the Caesar salad was made with anchovie paste.  The waitress told him no.  Because of her answer, he ordered a T-Bone steak, a baked potato, and a Caesar salad.  Until our meal came, we chatted about anything and everything under the sun. That is the one thing that always amazed me about being in a relationship with him--we are complete opposites, yet our conversation never lagged and always flowed smoothly.

The waitress brought our salads and that was when the most funny, yet memorable incident happened.  Geo absolutely HATES fish.  One bite into his salad and his face said it all--the waitress was wrong when she told him that the salad dressing contained no anchovy paste.  He made such a face and it revealed his hatred of fish.  The waitress came with the remainder of our meal and he politely asked her if she could switch his salad out for just a regular house salad.  His politeness in such situations had always impressed me, as well.  He never lost his temper with people in the food service business--his patience probably came from many years of working as a chef.  Mistakes do, and will, happen.  That is one of the things that I grew to love about him.  Our meal continued and then I was treated to yet another surprise--he asked me if I would like to have som dessert (something that I was NEVER given the option of, in the past).  We shared a slice of chocolate cake with peanut butter icing--his absolute favorite dessert and the only one that he will really eat.

So, there you go folks, the beginning of a beautiful friendship, that become much, much more!!!  We grew from friends, into lovers, and eventually, to be married.  The best part of the whole thing.  I love him, and I always will!!!
